Dads of Great Students
WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) is an innovative program aimed at increasing male involvement in schools across the country. Organized by the National Center for Fathering, this program gives schools the structure to bring fathers and father figures into the builiding to provide positive male role models for the students and to enhance school safety. The current schools in the Stanwood-Camano School District that have WATCH D.O.G.S. programs are Stanwood Elementary, Cedarhome Elementary, Twin City Elementary School, and Stanwood Middle School.
WATCH D.O.G.S. are male volunteers who agree to spend an entire day at the school interacting with children and assisting staff. They can be dads, grandpas, uncles, big brothers, or friends. They can volunteer as many days as they would like, but must commit to a full day structured schedule at the school.
Some of the things WATCH D.O.G.S do in our school are: meet and great students as they arrive for the day, help with flag salute and morning announcements, spend time in their own child's class assisting the teacher, play at recess with the kids, help monitor the lunchroom, read with students who need extra help, spend time helping in specialist classes, work with small groups of students in the classroom under the guidance of a teacher, and help with bus loading and goodbyes at the end of the school day. Each WATCH D.O.G. gets an individualized official schedule each day they volunteer.
This program has done great things for our school! If you wish to sign up or have questions, please contact Stanwood Elementary at 360-629-1250
