5th grade camp begins March 5th!
Each year Stanwood Elementary fifth grade classes attend outdoor education classes at YMCA Camp Seymour in Gig Harbor. They spend 3 days learning about marine biology, forestry, and other science topics having to do with the environment. The camp experience ties directly into the Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs) and is a real-world application of the learning students have been doing all year. Camp is funded by a combination of resources including PTA fundraising. Parents of 5th grade students are cabin Leaders and receive training by Camp Seymour Personnel before camp begins.
The kids and teachers are looking forward to this exciting, yet exhausting experience. It is one of the highlights of the 5th grade year.
